Best Soundtracks Of 2011

Curious to Know Which Movies Had The Best Soundtracks And Scores In 2011? 2011 has been a great year for the music industry and the same can be said for the film industry as well. We had premieres of some really big movies and as we all know the soundtracks that went with them.  And I’m sure many of you might agree that a soundtrack can either make or break the movie, right? So with that said, let’s have a look at some of the best soundtracks from this year’s movies. In the past months, we’ve been seeing more and more music artists shifting to music composers for several movies like The Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx. We also got to see some of our favorite childhood movies come back to life! Yes indeed! We are of course talking about The Muppets and Winnie the Pooh. After looking back and seeing what great movies and soundtracks 2011 brought us, all we can do is have even more expectations for 2012. That is of course if the world doesn’t end as “predicted”. Sorry, just had to get that dig in! Ok, now that I have that out of my system, let’s have a look at what 2011 had to offer. 1. The Artist In the era of technology and special effects, director Michel Mazanavicius decided to go back to where movies started from, namely, silent films. And since many of you are not quite familiar with this genre,  when you make a silent film, the most important part of it definitely has to be the soundtrack. Hence, the bold director turned to composer Ludovic Bource to fill the loud silence with rich orchestration. Surprisingly enough, the score was so good that it keeps everyone hooked for the entire two hours, and in 3D era, that is indeed a major accomplishment. Hats off for Bource for managing to create one of the most interesting movie scores of 2011! It’s a score filled with excitement, romance, comedy and sadness all rolled into one. 2. Winnie the Pooh 2011 brought us a new installment of one of our childhood favorites, “Winnie the Pooh”. As far as the soundtrack goes, the adorkable (yeah I know, I made that word up!)  Zooey Deschanel rose to the challenge and sang a few new songs in addition to the already classical tunes. The new additions were “A Very Important Thing To Do” and “So Long.” These were in addition to Pooh Bear and Tigger (Jim Cummings) themselves singing “The Tummy Song,” “It’s Gonna Be Great” and “Everything Is Honey” 3. Footloose Apparently, 2011 was the year for remakes. The classical “Footloose” is the most notable to fall into this category with some really good voices singing the classical tunes. Fortunately the man in charge of the soundtrack also put his own spin on the music and it brought us a pretty good score. Official “Footloose” Remake Soundtrack List: 1. Footloose – Blake Shelton
2. Where The River Goes – Zac Brown
3. Little Lovin’ – Lissie
4. Holding Out For A Hero – Ella Mae Bowen
5. Let’s Hear It For The Boy – Jana Kramer
6. So Sorry Mama – Whitney Duncan
7. Fake I.D. – Big & Rich feat. Gretchen Wilson
8. Almost Paradise – Victoria Justice & Hunter Hayes
9. Walkin’ Blues – Cee Lo Green feat. Kenny Wayne Shepherd
10. Window Paine – The Smashing Pumpkins
11. Suicide Eyes – A Thousand Horses
12. Dance The Night Away – David Banner Also featured in the film but not on the soundtrack:
White Stripes “Catch Hell Blues”
Three 6 Mafia “Get Your Feet Off The Ground”
Whiz Khalifa “Black & Yellow” 4. The Muppets This lovely sequel brought us Jason Segel and Amy Adams who were added to the mix this time. On top of that  we also got some new Muppet songs like “Man Or Muppet,” “Life’s A Happy Song” and “Me Party.” But you know Muppet fan Segel wasn’t going to bring the Muppets back without original classics like “The Muppet Show Theme” and “Rainbow Connection.” I mean, that would be like Lady Gaga appearing on stage without outrageous makeup right? 5. Jane Eyre For a film based on an 1800’s book, this movie is absolutely fantastic. And composer Dario Marianelli did something more here. He created a classical score that was also heavy with emotion and melancholy, making the film truly impressive. 6. Hanna The Chemical Brothers took their British electronic sound to the big screens and managed to score one of the most impressive soundtracks of 2011 for “Hanna.” And quite frankly, they blended in perfectly with the electrifying scenes of the movie. 7. Attack The Block Basement Jaxx created an electric soundtrack for Attack The Block which consists of alien songs combined with full-on hip-hop tracks from KRS-One (“Sound of Da Police”) and Mikis Michaelides (“Get That Snitch”). 8. Drive Cliff Martinez was the composer behind this fantastic soundtrack. Along with that and we also got a lovely, heart warming performance from Ryan Gosling. Amongst the memorable soundtracks, we should all remember tracks from Kavinsky and Lovefoxxx (“Nightcall”), Desiree (“Under Your Spell”), College (“A Real Hero”) and The Chromatics (“Tick of the Clock”) which created a perfect soundtrack for a lovely movie. If you haven’t seen all of these movies, you better go and rent the DVDs and watch them! And right after that go and get the official soundtrack CDs and listen to 2011’s best music. Hey! What are you still doing here?!
